Dehydrated Dried Oranges
1 dehydrator or
1 lined sheet pan and oven
Slice oranges ¼ inch thick and lay them on the dehydrator trays
Set the dryer to 135F and dry for about 4 hours.
You could also do this in an oven at 170F. Place on a sheet pan lined with parchment, flipping the oranges periodically.
I highly recommend using the convection option if you have it.
String them with ribbon or mix with potpourri.
1 cup cinnamon
1 cup apple sauce
2 Tbl glue (optional)
Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Wrap the dough and keep in the fridge if you aren’t using it right away.
Sprinkle more cinnamon on the counter to keep the dough from sticking. Roll the dough to ¼ inch thick.
Cut shapes free-hand or use cookie cutters. Place the undried ornaments on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper.
Using a toothpick, or something similar, create a hole in the ornament big enough for ribbon or raffia to fit through.
Dry in the oven at 170F for about an hour. Flip the ornaments halfway through.
I guess you could also use a dehydrator here, but I have not tried yet.
Allow to cool on a rack, and decorate with paint or leave plain.
When the ornaments are dried and cooled and decorated you can thread a ribbon through and hang on your tree!
